2019 Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance: Part 2
Photos and Text by Kirt Barnes
The 2019 Average Squad Amelia trip is over. The weekend went by as fast as many of the cars we were there to look at. But, while it passes quickly, capturing the event is always a big priority for us.
In past years, I would find myself switching lenses between cars and events, trying to get what I felt was the "most" out of my camera work. This year, I switched to a new camera body, going full frame and mirrorless with the new Canon RF. Since I would be bringing a camera new to me, I figured to bring a lens new to me also, and rented the Canon EF 24-70 2.8II zoom.
The versatility I found allowed me to focus more on the car rather than what is going to look best and which lens to use. I found myself looking at the car more than through the lens and just trusted that photos would present themselves.
Now that the weekend has passed, the lens is returned, and I see that it worked out fine. I captured a larger than normal cross section of what the Amelia trip is about. Now, about that lens, I'll be taking donations...
